New Lock and Cam Assembly Guides

lockassempage1 Forming part of our Rocfast assembly service, we have recently published the first in our Knowledge Base series of helpful guides. The Lock Assembly Guide has been designed to explain in simple steps, with easily understood diagrams and reference tables, how to select the correct product code of housing, insert and cam to suit individual enclosure requirements.

Its companion Cam Selection Guide gives additional detail on types and sizes of tabs available for standard quarter-turn locks – also available to download from www.fdb.co.uk/rocfast

camselectpage1 It is intended that use of the Lock Assembly Guide and the Cam Selection Guide will ease the specification process for design engineers – who may wish to assemble for themselves during production – or may otherwise wish to take advantage of the Rocfast lock assembly and logistics service. This service take the “heavy lifting” out of lock component selection, assembly and delivery with appropriate packaging if desired, and if the installation calls for it, separate deliveries of keys/barrels/tabs in production packs to a specified delivery schedule.

Anti-Tamper Stainless 1/4 Turn Lock for Public Areas

Our intriguingly named “pignose bung lock” may just be the ultimate in vandal-resistant quarter-turn locks for roadside cabinets or other publicly accessible cabinets that need to stay secure.

The “pignose bung” is secured into place with a two pronged key which ensures that the inner lock is protected; while the rugged AISI 303 stainless steel body and bung offer little in the way of opportunity for vandals. Legitimate access is simply gained by removing the bung with its special key and using a normal key to turn the recessed hexagonal insert-with-pin. Both 90° and 180° rotation options are available on the “pig nosed bung lock”.

Motor transport vehicle fasteners

Our new motor transport vehicle fasteners include hinges, slam locks and quarter-turn locks to suit the specialist needs of this industry. These include a strong requirement for permanently secure fastening protected against vibrations and the mechanical demands placed upon these components by heavy duty use in challenging environmental circumstances. This could well include dust, mud, rain, heat and abusive treatment, even vandalism.

The 12-660TR screw-on hinge in steel or stainless steel is a rugged example suited to doors and access panels; such door/panels also need secure closure which we can provide in the form of the 12-081TR vibration-proof quarter-turn lock in stainless steel or the 12-250TR self-locking quarter-turn with slam cam action, again in stainless steel.

Smooth locking with FDB!

In a nice touch of detail design we can make operation of many cabinet locks really much smoother with this Slide Shoe for cams. This simple 2-part plastic shoe fits easily over many standard lock cams for single quarter turn locks and multi-point locking systems, thus maximising gasket pull-down while minimising the scraping effect on a cabinet frame, with the operator benefit of an easier smoother mechanism.

The Slide Shoe features tool-less assembly with a positive locking design. It is ideal for new assembly but may also be retro-fitted with due attention to clamping of door gaskets. The Slide Shoe has excellent sliding properties as proven in laboratory tests of 20,000 cycles and its electrical insulation properties further enhance the safety of equipment housings.

Panel Fittings for Special Vehicles

For Special Purpose Vehicles such as fire fighting trucks, ambulances, police riot control vehicles, refuse trucks etc, there are many special requirements which we are able to take into account with this specialist range of hardware. These requirements begin with a high degree of vibration and vandalism resistance, coupled with some quite specific standards and industry usages such as for handles, gaskets and especially lock inserts – vital for security while enabling ready access to any authorised person who therefore needs to only carry one key.

Examples include the 12-880TR bridge handle with application specific colour coding, UL listed clip-on gasket, stainless steel slam latches and AISI 316TI stainless steel quarter-turn locks with industry standard inserts.

The Rocfast program is a new service which we expect to save time, money and mistakes by offering quality locks assembled and delivered direct from our Panel Fittings experts here at FDB – including all major market leading industry brands. The Rocfast lock assembly service is designed to take the hard work out of an order process that often requires specification of individual lock components and time consuming self-assembly prior to installation. Our expert team will rapidly identify the optimum specification of components then order, assemble and deliver to site, to workshop or to metal former/subcontractor in line with our theme of providing “Panel Fittings for every Enclosure”.

The Rocfast service includes all ¼ turn favourites with appropriate keys, with IP rated sealing if required, with cams of all types, traditional L or T handles, swinghandles and compression locks as applicable. The Rocfast assembly program can efficiently deal with modern modular component systems or traditional single kit formats and with one-off or scheduled program deliveries as well as separate packaging of locks/backnuts/keys etc to suit logistical requirements. Stainless steel “easy clean” IP67 lock

Our recently announced 7-081 IP67 stainless steel quarter-turn lock has a wealth of features that ensure its suitability for food processing and electronic clean room assembly areas.

The easy to clean polished and rounded shape eliminates crevices that could trap debris, thus preventing accumulation of dirt and bacterial contamination in conjunction with conventional cleaning methods, including high pressure cleaning. There is a reduced risk of injuries and guaranteed germ free environment within the enclosure. The 7-081 complies with FDA (Food and Drug Administration) requirements and features special red silicone gasketing for easy identification.

Additional features include electrical continuity by use of a grounding nut to protect users against static discharge. The wide variety of cams available ensures that there is high application flexibility and optimal fit to frame width.

Locks can be delivered pre-assembled under our Rocfast brand package.
